An Alternative Baby Shower

Jill and I have come up with an idea that we’re kind of excited about. We were walking the dog and I was talking about how the economy is really hurting non-profit ministries like ours, and then we started talking about the baby, and then we sort of combined the two conversations and came up with a whole new idea.

We have already received a lot of great gifts to get us ready for the baby, and Jill has done an incredible job finding ways to buy used stuff like bouncy seats and playmats and a whole mess of stuff that I had no idea babies required. So we’re planning an Alternative Baby Shower for those of you who might still want to get something, but have no idea what.

Instead of buying a gift at a store for us, we’re inviting you to give to orphaned children through God’s Kids. Just follow this link to give a gift to third world kids in honor of Baby Leonard. We’ll be able to track how much money Baby Leonard has raised for orphaned children, and we’ll send you a thank you card and everything.

For those of you who’ve already purchased a gift for us, don’t worry, we haven’t changed and we still love surprises!

Also, I wrote more about the idea over on the Orphan blog if you’re interested.

Carpet Cleaning Work Day

Here are some action shots of Mark’s hard work last weekend as we did some major cleaning. He did the vacuuming and carpet cleaning, and I scrubbed the bathroom until I got tired. :)

Baby Room Workday

We had a few friends of ours come over today to install baseboards in the baby room. Everyone played a key role in the process each according to his skills and competencies.

Joel’s toy
Joel Verhoef brought the know-how and the equipment.

Joel and Greg

Greg Treur
Greg Treur donated his time and hard labor.

Pastor Will
Pastor will led the armchair philosophy discussion.

Breakfast
And we all appreciated the breakfast that Jill prepared for us.

You’ll notice that I am conspicuously absent from the scene. This is because my role was to pay for the baseboards, which I handled quite well if I do say so myself.
